The Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Kwara State, has announced plans to confer the title of Fellow of the National Labour Institute (FNLI) on the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, in recognition of his achievements in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

Explaining the decision to honour the EFCC Chairman, Director-General/CEO of the Institute, Issa Aremu, stated, “In view of your sterling achievements, I am glad to inform you that the management and staff of the Institute have endorsed the conferment of the Fellow of the National Labour Institute (FNLI) on you.”

The letter added that the award represented the Institute’s “premium appreciation” of Olukoyede’s achievements.

The investiture will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during a conference on illegal mining, corruption, and climate resilience organized by MINILS in collaboration with the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) and the EFCC.

The conference, scheduled to hold at the main auditorium of MINILS in Ilorin, will focus on the theme, “Safeguarding the Future: Addressing the Nexus of Illegal Mining, Corruption and Climate Resilience in Africa.”

In a letter inviting Olukoyede to serve as the Chief Guest Speaker, the Institute commended his leadership and commitment to the fight against economic crimes since his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 12, 2023.

“We bear witness to the dynamism, uncommon commitment, and patriotism you have brought to the Commission since your appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 12, 2023, as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Commission’s efforts in combating economic crimes, illicit financial flows, and resource theft have been globally acknowledged,” the Institute said in the letter.

The Institute also acknowledged the EFCC’s efforts in combating economic crimes, illicit financial flows, and resource theft, noting that the Commission’s achievements under Olukoyede had received global recognition.

“Given the EFCC’s frontline role in addressing corruption and safeguarding Nigeria’s economic resources, your participation in this conference offers invaluable insights into practical strategies for tackling the criminal networks that undermine the nation’s mining sector.”

At the conference, the EFCC Chairman is expected to share insights into strategies for tackling criminal networks undermining Nigeria’s mining sector and the theft of the nation’s natural resources.
His presentation will examine the nature and dimensions of corruption in the mining sector, the links between illegal mining, organised crime, and insecurity, as well as the economic, social, and environmental consequences of resource theft.

He is also expected to highlight the EFCC’s interventions in combating mining-related corruption and discuss the roles of citizens, trade unions, civil society organisations, and local communities in promoting transparency and accountability.

The conference will bring together stakeholders from government institutions, organised labour, the private sector, civil society, academia, and host communities to examine the implications of illegal mining for national security, environmental sustainability, decent work, and climate resilience.

According to the Institute, the engagement is designed to promote citizenship and labour union participation within the framework of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
MINILS expressed confidence that Olukoyede’s experience and expertise would enrich deliberations and contribute to actionable recommendations for combating illegal mining and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria and across Africa.

Established in 1983, MINILS is Nigeria’s premier government institute dedicated to workers’ education. Named after renowned labour leader and statesman Pa Michael Imoudu, the Institute trains trade union leaders, employers, and government officials in industrial relations, labour law, mediation, and negotiation.

FBI Commends Olukoyede, EFCC for Support in Tackling Sextortion, Cybercrime

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Commission for their efforts and vital role in Operation Artemis, a joint international effort to disrupt financially motivated sextortion networks targeting minors.

The commendation was conveyed in a letter signed by FBI Director Kash Patel, who praised the Commission for its collaboration with the Bureau in the arrest and extradition of suspects facing federal charges in the United States.

In the letter addressed to Olukoyede, Patel acknowledged the Commission’s contribution to the operation, stating that “the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has played a vital role in Operation Artemis, a joint effort focused on disrupting financially motivated sextortion rings targeting juveniles.”

He said that, under Olukoyede’s leadership, the EFCC designated personnel to support the investigations and facilitate the transfer of suspects from Nigeria to face prosecution in the United States.

Specifically, the FBI Director commended the EFCC for apprehending Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudashiru Afeez Olawale, who were indicted in the United States in 2023 over allegations relating to the sexual exploitation and extortion of minors.

The two suspects were extradited to the United States in August 2026, with the EFCC facilitating the process following investigations and extradition proceedings. They are facing federal charges relating to sexual exploitation in cases involving the deaths of minors.

Patel noted that the successful outcome of the cases would not have been possible without the EFCC’s assistance and commitment to international law enforcement cooperation.

“The successful outcome of these cases would not have been possible without your assistance and dedication to international law enforcement collaboration,” he said.

The FBI Director further expressed appreciation to Olukoyede and the Commission for their commitment to justice and continued cooperation, while expressing optimism about strengthening the partnership between both agencies.

“Please accept my sincere appreciation for your commitment to justice and steadfast cooperation. I look forward to the continued partnership with the EFCC,” he stated in the letter.

The extradition of Adekunle and Olawale followed FBI investigations into separate sextortion schemes targeting male minors in the United States. The investigations linked the alleged activities to two teenage victims who died by suicide after being subjected to online sexual exploitation and extortion.

Edeh, who was arraigned on February 28, 2024, faced nine counts bordering on fraudulent false accounting and unauthorised access to a computer system.

The charges alleged that he altered the bank account details of several customers and government-related entities, including the Kano State Government Power Intervention Fund, NNPC Trading Limited, Stallion Vision Ltd, the Lagos State Government Blue Line, the State Contributory Pension Account and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, with intent to defraud.

In her judgment, Justice Abike-Fadipe held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and consequently convicted Edeh on all nine counts.
