Forest Security Service Seeks Collaboration with EFCC in Anti-Corruption Fight
The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has sought collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the fight against corruption, as well as economic and financial crimes in the country.
The request was made on Thursday, April 2, 2026, when the NFSS Commander-General, Adewole Joshua Osatimehin, led a delegation of his management team on a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, at the Commission’s corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Osatimehin commended Olukoyede’s leadership for its strides in tackling corruption, especially in bringing highly placed individuals to justice.
“We are here today after considering your vision for this organisation. Since you took over, high-profile individuals who thought they were untouchable have been brought to book, and Nigeria is feeling the impact. We want to be part of your success story,” he said.
In this regard, he informed his host that the NFSS has a widespread grassroots presence that could support the EFCC in intelligence gathering across the country.
“We have members in all villages and wards, with village intelligence officers across the country. If you want to get any information, whether in Zamfara, Sokoto, or anywhere else, it is just a phone call away. While we trace bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and other criminal elements, the EFCC can monitor their financial flows to ensure their arrest,” he said.
He appealed to the EFCC for capacity building of NFSS personnel, particularly in the area of investigation.
“We have our head of finance and administration, zonal commanders, and national officers, and we want them to be trained at your facility and benefit from your vast pool of resource persons so that we can improve our operational capabilities. This partnership will yield the desired results,” he said.
Osatimehin highlighted the importance of forest security, noting that Nigeria’s vast forest reserves require urgent attention.
“Nigeria is blessed with ecological assets, including 1,129 forest reserves, 29 game reserves, 17 national parks, and 417 grazing reserves. Out of the country’s 92 million hectares of land mass, about 9.1 million hectares are forested. This shows that a significant portion of Nigeria is forested, and something must be done to secure these areas,” he said.
Olukoyede, in his remarks, welcomed the desire of the NFSS to collaborate with the EFCC towards achieving the mandates of both government agencies.
“Everybody must be involved in ensuring security in Nigeria, even at the private level. Provided they can offer value, we can work together. Anyone who understands what is going on in our forests today knows there is a need for synergy with forest guards,” he said.
The EFCC boss lamented that forests across the country have become safe havens for criminal elements and called for collaborative action among all stakeholders.
“Our forests are virtually taken over by bandits and illegal miners, and the latter falls within our mandate. We arrest illegal miners in large numbers, and many of the heinous crimes committed by bandits are planned and executed from the forests. They perpetrate their crimes and retreat back to the forests. This is an area where the government and citizens must rise collectively to address the menace,” he said.
He assured the delegation of the Commission’s willingness to partner with organisations whose mandates align with that of the EFCC.

“We are willing to collaborate and partner with any organisation, whether private or public, provided their mandates align with ours. We are patriotic in our work, and we appreciate what you are doing. Together, we can achieve more,” he said.
He also granted the NFSS’s request for capacity building by the EFCC in the area of investigation.

EFCC Counsel Misquoted in ALGON Lawyer’s Fraud Allegation Judgment
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) views with grave concern the misrepresentation of the reaction of its counsel, Larry Peters Aso, to the judgment delivered by Justice Suleiman Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by legal practitioner Dr Ted Iseghoi-Edwards.
The judge reportedly cleared Iseghoi-Edwards of alleged fraud relating to services rendered to the nation’s 774 local government councils. He also disagreed with the EFCC’s position regarding its investigation report on the London-Paris Club refunds.
Reacting to the judgment, Aso thanked the judge for his industry in attending to the matter and stated that the EFCC would apply for a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment “and study it to know the necessary steps to take.”
He did not make any statement about an EFCC report from 2024 concerning allegations that Iseghoi-Edwards “fraudulently obtained the judgments, because he instituted proceedings against the Federal Government in the United States.”
Additionally, claims that Aso said the report was prepared under pressure from higher authorities “after Iseghoi-Edwards assigned his promissory notes to third parties in the United States, where they threatened to sue the Federal Government” are entirely mischievous and amount to deliberate character assassination.
This framing was intended to insinuate that extraneous influences affected the matter, which was not the case.
The record of proceedings from Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when the judgment was delivered, can be accessed to verify Aso’s reaction.
The Commission urges the media to be more objective in reporting court proceedings in the interest of justice.

FBI Commends Olukoyede, EFCC for Support in Tackling Sextortion, Cybercrime
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Commission for their efforts and vital role in Operation Artemis, a joint international effort to disrupt financially motivated sextortion networks targeting minors.
The commendation was conveyed in a letter signed by FBI Director Kash Patel, who praised the Commission for its collaboration with the Bureau in the arrest and extradition of suspects facing federal charges in the United States.
In the letter addressed to Olukoyede, Patel acknowledged the Commission’s contribution to the operation, stating that “the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has played a vital role in Operation Artemis, a joint effort focused on disrupting financially motivated sextortion rings targeting juveniles.”
He said that, under Olukoyede’s leadership, the EFCC designated personnel to support the investigations and facilitate the transfer of suspects from Nigeria to face prosecution in the United States.
Specifically, the FBI Director commended the EFCC for apprehending Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudashiru Afeez Olawale, who were indicted in the United States in 2023 over allegations relating to the sexual exploitation and extortion of minors.
The two suspects were extradited to the United States in August 2026, with the EFCC facilitating the process following investigations and extradition proceedings. They are facing federal charges relating to sexual exploitation in cases involving the deaths of minors.
Patel noted that the successful outcome of the cases would not have been possible without the EFCC’s assistance and commitment to international law enforcement cooperation.
“The successful outcome of these cases would not have been possible without your assistance and dedication to international law enforcement collaboration,” he said.
The FBI Director further expressed appreciation to Olukoyede and the Commission for their commitment to justice and continued cooperation, while expressing optimism about strengthening the partnership between both agencies.
“Please accept my sincere appreciation for your commitment to justice and steadfast cooperation. I look forward to the continued partnership with the EFCC,” he stated in the letter.
The extradition of Adekunle and Olawale followed FBI investigations into separate sextortion schemes targeting male minors in the United States. The investigations linked the alleged activities to two teenage victims who died by suicide after being subjected to online sexual exploitation and extortion.
